When I was young, during the summer, I would pack up my rifle, good knife, some spices, a lighter, maybe some candy and head for the woods.
I would be gone all day and the only rule laid on me was “Be home by sundown”. I was nine or ten when I first started walking the forest. I learned more in those days than any school ever taught me. That includes my master’s degree.
If a parent were to allow that today, they would be arrested.
You might be a hillbilly if you’re as saddened and angry about that as I am.
